Belarus launches winter grain sowing

Belarus has sown 7,150 hectares with winter grain, which makes up 0.49% of the plan, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry.

As of 31 August, grain and leguminous crops (excluding maize) were harvested on the area of 2.07 million hectares, or 94.4% of the plan. Grodno Oblast fulfilled 98.8% of the harvesting plan (318,700 hectares). Brest Oblast cropped 98.9% (336,100 hectares), Minsk Oblast harvested 98.6% of the area (482,700 hectares), Gomel Oblast harvested 97.4% (332,600 hectares), Mogilev Oblast gathered 86.8% (288,400 hectares), Vitebsk Oblast harvested 84.9% (311,400 hectares). Harvesting of buckwheat and millet is also in full swing, with 16.3% and 25,7% of the area under these crops already harvested.

All in all, 7.697 million tonnes of grain was threshed across the country with the average yield at 37.2 centners per hectare (in 2019, the yield as of the same date was 31.2 centners per hectare). Minsk Oblast harvested more than 1.9 million tonnes of grain, Grodno Oblast 1.5 million tonnes, Brest Oblast over 1.3 million tonnes, Mogilev Oblast, Vitebsk Oblast and Gomel Oblast - over 900,000 tonnes.

Flax was harvested on the area of 46,400 hectares (96.2% of the area under this crop).

Some 780,500 tonnes of hay (77.3% of the plan), 12.899 million tonnes of haylage (102.4%) and 1.617 million tonnes of silage (8.44%) were stocked. In total, there are plans to procure 9.3 million tonnes of fodder units of grass feed, most of them in Minsk Oblast and Brest Oblast. By this time, 47% of the plan has been fulfilled.
